CPU fan runs very high temps

Hello guys, my friend recently had a problem with his amd athlon x4 860k where his temperatures are extremely high from 70ish idle and in high 90s while gaming. I've reseated and reapplied thermal paste to the fan but the problems still there. Do you guys think that a new fan would be a good idea or is there some other reason

the paste goes to between cpu and cooler that what you did but did you clean old paste first ,the coooler may not be well seated on cpu recheck paste or reaply new one .

Also, are these temps reading in Farenheit or Celsius?

Because any AMD cpu I've ever used would have shut down a LONG ways before ever reaching 90c.
What are you using to read the temps? Some software is inaccurate with AMD chipsets.

If he has it reading in Farenheit, those temps are almost impossibly low.
A mistake of some kind is being made here.
Try HWMonitor, and check both core and package temps.

I would change the fans and the cooling system as 90 degrees c is very high during gaming.

90 c on a AMD chip is cpu frying territory. I am very surprised the computer is not shutting down long before that.
Check the bios to see if the thermal shutdown limits have been disabled.

i would repaste it right now and use this on the sensor page to compare temp with bios http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php this seams to me that the cooler is not well seated on cpu or fan not running as it should .
