Need spec checking before buying

I was just wondering if it was possible for someone to spec check my new desktop build, if you do; thanks!

So I'm not exactly new to building PC's, this is going to be my second, but I just wanted to make sure everything is compatible and everything!

Also, someone helped me the first time, so I'm definitely not an expert hardwarist... :p

Almost forgot: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MYgpvK

No specific reason, just found it online. What's the difference between z87 and z97?

What's wrong with the CX series? I currently have one and it seems to be working just fine.

I am going to be using it for light gaming, but heavy video editing and such.

If you could link me to a 'better' PSU for about the same price, I'd apreciate it.

The z97 is newer and has a few more features, like SATA express and M.2 capabilities... This PSU is more and doesn't have a MIR but it is by far a better unit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
The CX series are just not made with as high quality capacitors, and are therefore more likely to fail especially when being pushed. Just look up people with CX series and some of there problems. They just aren't made for higher-end systems

Do you know any other newer motherboards that are a little cheaper in price than the z97 and closer to the z87? As I'm trying to keep the price down as much as possible. It seems that the CX model is getting really good reviews on Amazon, and it's a lot cheaper than what you listed, so I'm not sure what to get...

Would an AX or HX Corsair be better?

Absolutely! They are tier one units! Great units!

Kind of embarrassed to say this, contrary to my argument, but lately my system has been shutting off and the red light on the front just blinks. When I press the power button, it simply turns on... I was thinking it could be overheating, but could this be the CX's fault?

No, that is most likely it going to sleep and the HDD activity light blinking

It is just doing it after being inactive for awhile, correct?

It only does it sometimes, and when it does, under the Event Viewer in Windows, it shows some error. The red light blinking is the PC status light plugged into the motherboard. I'm putting it into sleep mode to see if that's it though!

Good to hear!!

My two things are: I do not like to see people on a budget try to cut corners on the PSU and it blow up in there face (no pun intended), I would rather spend the extra $30 now then another $1000 later.

And, I don't want to see someone just click the CX series because it is the first thing to pop up on PCPartPicker, oblivious to its problems, that's all!!

The i5 will be a GINORMOUS upgrade. (I came from Phenom x4 to 4790k and it was AMAZING!!!) You said you were video editing right? You will really want the i7 > the i5 for that. The case is where I see the best opportunity to shave some of the price, but there are other places. How much are you looking to shave?

So you have the i5, not i7? How is it for editing (if you edit)? Would the i7 really be that much better in After Effects compared to the i5? And it took me a while to find a case that I like, but do you have any suggestions for a similar case?

Thanks for all the help so far!

I have i7, but I know both will be a HUGE upgrade. You cannot go wrong with either of those CPU's... The i7 will be better. How much? That's hard to say, I'd say a fair amount. But if you look at other threads, they will ask the OP if he is editing or just gaming and that will help decide what processor he gets (unless said person has a large enough budget for it to not matter and they then get the i7 by default). What do you like about that case? Is it the (I don't want to call it boringness) discreteness? Or is there a feature you need?

It has a nice simple design, plus the fan in the front is really easily accessible. It's also built for being quiet. The others for 30 or 40 I found on Newegg just looked cheap, like cheap plastic. You know any cases that at least don't look cheap for 40 or 50 or so? My current SPEC-01 is awesome, but I want something a little different.

Some of the Antec cases look sharp, cheap but sharp.
NZXT has some seeming good ones
Theres the Fractal Design Core series (make sure you get one that supports full ATX or go with the z97m Anniversary (same motherboard but is micro-atx))
