I need help with my GPU/CPU problem

GPU: EVGA gtx 970 SSC ACX 2.0
CPU: fx- 6300

Playing simple games like Garry's Mod, my GPU or CPU do not max out and my GPU clock will be around 600 - 1200 MHz and I will get horrible fps, around 25. Even in cs go not all maxed out I get around 100. my unigine valley score was 2982 with ultra and AA off 1920x1080. My card a stock and no changes..someone help!

what are the temps on both the gpu and cpu while playing??

I can't remember off the top of my head, I know unigine valley it hovered around 73c. And other games perform okay, I was playing metro 2033, and it seemed to run fine with a hiccup here and there.

looks like a bad cpu and gpu combintion if able try to switch the cpu to intel i5 7600k you will get a lot better preformence and you will be able to overclock
