Do I need USB ethernet adapter and/or + router?

I have tried this with no adapter. Not working.

Solution
Sorry, that missing driver is for the YELLOWED network controller which I don't really care about, is the Atheros AR8151 that I care about and it seems to be OK, EXECEPT the GATEWAY is wrong. Go look at the good machine's IPCONFIG screen and compare.

The Atheros GATEWAY should be the same as the good machine's.
It should work with just the wan cable plugged directly into your pc. Problem is it is very rare to get internet from a provider on ethernet, there is normally some form of modem or router connecting to wire coming into your house.

Unless the ethernet port is defective in your laptop you should not need a usb to ethernet adapter. After you load the drivers for the usb/ethernet adapter it pretty much looks the same as the built in ethernet card. It will likely have the same issues as the built in card.

If you have a cable modem try to power cycle that before you plug your pc in.

I suspect there is more to this story since a ethernet cable is the simplest of any internet connection.

My ethernet cable comes from the wall can't say exactly what form it comes at first, but most likely switch. It does not have any modem. It works propertly on my desktop pc directly plugged in back of motherboard. But on my laptop it is different. It does not have access to internet connection. I have installed newest LAN drivers for my laptop. But nothing.

If you run IPCONFIG /all do have a ip addresses assigned is the ethernet port in a up or down condition.

If you have your own router you should be able to test your hardware by connecting to the lan port and seeing if you can get into the configuration menus on the router.

Ethernet is no difference whether desktop or laptop.

Why are you not using laptop's WIFI?
What's the laptop make/model?
Why are you using a USB adapter? Laptop doesn't have built-in Ethernet port?
Did this EVER worked?
Yes, open a DOS prompt, execute IPCONFIG /ALL and post result.

can't reveal ip.
Don't have router/modem and my internet comes from switch and same using my neighbors. It is strange why does it not working on my laptop but on desktop working.
Laptop has lan port on it.

I would assume you have a 192.168.168.x address...you have big issues if you don't. All 192.168 ip are private and mean nothing outside your house.....still it doesn't matter.

See if you can ping 192.168.168.1. Because you got a ip via dhcp it means you talked to the router and it gave you a IP so your ethernet is working fine. It also has a gateway so it should be able to get to the internet. Missing the DNS is a concern unless you removed that.

This could be a firewall issue blocking traffic, your ethernet in general looks fine.

Then questions.
Should I only buy USB ethernet adapter?
Should I only buy Modem?
Should I buy USB ethernet adapter + Modem?
Should I buy USB ethernet adapter + Router + Modem?
Should I buy USB ethernet adapter + Router?
Should I only buy Router?

....
Maybe my laptop's lan port working... If so could you tell me, how to make internet working without buying anything (Directly WAN connected to laptop)?
What to do?

Why do you think the ethernet cable does not work.

You get ip addresses from the dhcp server. That means it is not the cable or the physical interface. It likely is not even the configuration of the ethernet port.

If you want to buy something new just because go ahead but it would be pure luck if it fixed the problem.

Your problem is not at the hardware level or even what is called the layer 2 level. You have a issue with something blocking ip traffic, could be the firewall on your machine, could be a issue with the router. The router could be configured to only allow a the mac address from your desktop to use the network.

after some manual configuration internet not working still...IPv4 Connectivity: Internet is totally fake. No internet anyway. Troubleshooter can't find any problems. Firewall is ok.

Well you are in luck, because I agree with billg, there is nothing wrong with your hardware or LAN.

Somehow, somewhere, someone changed your machine configuration.

Will it be a major hassle to install OS from scratch? That's the easiest way, I don't know how long anybody here can hang long enough to hand-hold you.

No they don't. Not very long time ago I have bought new desktop pc. And internet connection via wan cable worked from first plugged in. Do not think they do this, this happens for my laptop only, but all desktop pc's I had working well. I just think maybe laptop need some hardware to start working (adapter, router, modem ..etc). Maybe my laptop doesnt have LAN card, I only know it have intel wireless card (have checked). But why then it have ethernet cable port (LAN) and not working ethernet at all...?

Pic#1: DRIVER NOT INSTALLED!!!!!! unless you fix this, everything else will look bad. The Mobo's vendor has the EXACT driver you need. Where is CD that came with the Mobo? But OK, just go into the Vendor's website to get it then.

Pic#3: You LAN is 192.168.168.x At first glance, your GATEWAY is wrong. This is very simple, also DISPLAY THIS SCREEN from your working desktop, it has the correct GATEWAY AND DNS information that also should be on your laptop. DHCP should have taken care of this automatically. I strongly suggest fix problem#1 first, reboot everything, then come back to this screen if you have to.

Installed wireless driver(Intel Centrino Wireless N100 ) (I found out it was missing (was under yellow color)) and nothing...I have installed LAN drivers('Atheros' is mostly suitable driver for my laptop(tried 'Realtek' and this fails at installing)) Maybe this need manual ip configuration?

I know what you mean. Under yellow color was wireless LAN driver missing so I installed them to fix other problem. On Asus support nothing (except Atheros drivers I already installed). Tried installing Realtek Lan driver but not working (fails at setup). The mostly suitable driver Asus supportrecomends (Atheros). I trully believe it can be driver fault and other drivers not working except Atheros.
