Hello,
recently my hdd has died on my pc so resultantly I bought myself a new hdd 1tb sata WD blue, I have got a new windows 8.1 os disk and when ever I go to install it on the pc it doesn't let me as it says that the hard drive doesn't get recognized by the disk. I have checked the BIOS and the hdd is present so it is being recognized by the pc but not by the disk.
can someone tell me what it is please any help is really greatly appreciated. :)

Solution
Hi there mighty_crunch,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
I assume that you've tried something simple as just attaching the drive with different cables to a different port.

You can try clearing and reformatting the drive through the CMD the following way:
- Once you are in Windows setup, press shift+F10 to bring up the command line.
- diskpart [enter]
- list disk [enter]
- select drive [number] [enter]
- clean all [enter] * see note below
- create partition primary [enter]
- select partition 1 [enter]
- active [enter]
- format fs=ntfs [enter] ** see note
- assign [enter]
- exit [enter]
- exit [enter]

In case the issue persists, you can test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool for DOS: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=KBae7x...
