I have two External hard drives both from deceased laptops, one of them is a Hitachi Travelstar

Model IC25N030ATMR04-0, The other one is stuck in a case. They have a usb adapter...

Whenever I plug them into my computer, (Win 8.1 Toshiba satellite i5 core) It takes atleast 5 seconds for it to do anything, it pops up in My computer as Removable Disk E but when I click it or don't do anything it will go almost transparent then disappear. It doesn't show up in disk management also, Could someone please explain to me how I can fix it, and if it's dead or dying how to get the data off of it. It has pictures from trips ETC

I'm not very indepth with programming or computing, although I can do basic functions and use CMD.

Hi there jesse jones,

So these were internal laptop drives and now you are attaching them externally right?
It is strange that the HDDs appear under My Compututer but not disk management. In my vies, it would be best if you can connect them internally through SATA. That way, you will eliminate the possibility of a faulty cable, enclosure, adapter.

Apart from that, you can test both drives with some testing tool. The results should show what is wrong with them: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Also, you can try scanning them with some data recovery program: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

Hope this will help,
