Hi I'm building a PC for the first time and I just wanted to know if I'd picked good/compatible parts.

Specs
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£159.98 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Asus Z97I-PLUS Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard (£116.36 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury White 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£37.22 @ CCL Computers)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£71.94 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card (£260.99 @ Aria PC)
Case: BitFenix Prodigy (White) Mini ITX Tower Case (£61.42 @ Amazon UK)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£64.99 @ Aria PC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) (£75.08 @ CCL Computers)

Upgrades in the future would include doubling the RAM and also adding another drive. The only thing I haven't included is a CPU cooler, as I need to someone to recommend me one that fits on a mini ITX motherboard, without having to use low profile RAM sticks. Also will this PSU fit in the case, as I know some just will not fit in the Prodigy.

Please feel free to offer any improvements and recommendations, thanks in advance.

I'd go for a H97 board and non K CPU since you (probably) won't be doing an overclocking in a mini ITX case.

Most coolers with a 80/92mm fans are generally going to be compatible with mini ITX boards and their RAM/PCI-e slots. The Noctua NH-L9x65 guarantees 100% compatibility with RAM and PCI-e slots on all mini ITX boards. It isn't cheap but all Noctua stuff is absolutely top notch quality and the aftercare/warranty is great

Looking at some builds using the Prodigy ITX case on PC partpicker, someone put a Corsair H100i AIO which is 240mm and another put a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (and also using same rams) so it seems the case can hold large AIO or a large heatsink, so depending on how much you plan to overclock or plan the airflow, both will work well.

Thanks for the advice, is overclocking in a mini ITX case a bad idea then?

Your chosen PC case and Motherboard is perfect for it. Here's a link to a build with the very big and tall CPU heatsink, the 212 Evo

As you can see, plenty of clearance and air flow in the case. I own the Asus z97i-Plus board and it is amazing. It overclocked my g3258 from 3.2 to 4.4 on stock cooler. The i5 is a hotter chip so a great air cooler is recommended or just water cool it with a AIO so you only have the heat of the gpu to worry about getting out of the case.
