I'm not too sure if my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu and was wondering how i could be sure. One of my games "Homefront" lag/ have lag spikes (60fps to 20fps then back to 50) , and was wondering if this was the problem.

my specs are the following:

i3 550
r9 270
4gb ddr3 1333 ram
1tb hdd
440w psu

*********** Another question, should i upgrade to the i5 750? would this be a better cpu *****

Solution
Yes, it will bottleneck. You can download MSI Afterburner if you need proof, have it show CPU and GPU usage and your CPU will be at 100% and your GPU will not. Your RAM may play apart if you have other apps open while gaming. I would advise just upgrading to a newer processor, that CPU won't help as much as you'll want it to. If it was an i7 from that gen I would say go for it until you get a new one.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hxcgzy $8 over but will be a good upgrade. You should also think about getting 8GB of ram & a 550w PSU.
