Yesterday, I built my new computer. I was so excited (but I built it on carpet so static may have fried my motherboard) and when I finally finished, it didn't work. It turned on for 5-6 seconds with all the fans turning, then it turned off. And the cycle repeated until I cut the power to the computer. I did my research and made sure all my correct cables were plugged in correctly (which I'm pretty sure they were) and it still did not work.

So i tried troubleshooting:
(By "Turn on" I mean all the fans running and the front LED working.

Trial 1:
No RAM and nothing external but the necessary power cables. Stayed on for ten seconds but same problem of turning off and on persists.
Trial 2: Motherboard, GPU, and CPU on insulated surface (cardboard).
Stayed on for ten seconds but same problem still persists...
Trial 3: Added RAM.
Stayed on for about 5-6 seconds then turned off again. Cycle repeats.

Judging by these trials, I figured the RAM might be a problem, but I am really not sure. It really could be a number of things: RAM, CPU, fried Motherboard (which i think it might be), et cetera.

So today I wanted to return my motherboard and claim it was DOA because I wasn't sure what was really wrong. I was going to clean some of the thermal paste I got on the outside of the clip that holds down the CPU but I dropped some into the CPU socket -_-. I tried to get it out but in the process I bent ALOT of CPU socket pins. At this point, I realized that NCIX would probably not take this damaged motherboard back since there's obviously some damage to it (but I'm wondering if they still might ??).

Afterwards, I tried straightening all the pins but two pins were so severely damaged they just detached from the CPU socket. These were at the bottom right area of the CPU socket of the motherboard. I put in my CPU and heard a very quiet crunching noise which may be from my not-so-perfect alignments of the socket pins (I just made sure the top of the pins were all straight would hopefully be touching their corresponding pads on my CPU). I rebuilt everything exactly the same way I did before and the same problem still persists....

Any help for a first time PC builder? I'm really excited about getting a new PC and building one especially, but if any parts are damaged I won't have the money to replace it (especially my CPU, which is upwards of $200-$300).

This is my parts list if anyone's interested:

My cooler and case are apparently incompatible but everything still fits the same.

Your problem right now is the damaged MB (if they notice the missing pins they will not do a refound), as for your previous issue i would think that you didnt do the proper power supply connections or you didnt socket your RAM correctly.
