first things first my build right now
ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO
i5 4690k
8gb corsair
GT 640 1gb ( already bought the ASUS Strix but cant use it yet)
cooler master 500w

so I bought the 6 to 8 pin adapter thinking I can just pop that in and use my new card but, i just recently found out that the 6 to 8 pin only gives me 75w. my bad PSU has 4+4 pin and a 6 pin, so I was thinking since I have the 6 to 8 pin i can switch the 4+4 pin to use on my graphics card and the 6 to 8 pin on my motherboard. will that in any way work at all or mess up my PC? or should I just buy a new PSU?

I'm pretty sure that PSU is the one they originally marketed as a 550w but after some tests came out and showed... it's actually 500w... It can be used for now but you should definitely think about an upgrade. You are pushing a lower quality PSU which is never a good idea. What would your budget e for a new one?

I would say around 80 dollars. In about a week and a half I would be able to order it.. Don't feel like ruining my new card so I will get the PSU that you recommend for me.

I like the fully modular one because of the case clutter and all and it is 4th gen certified. wow man great suggestions I think I will get the EVGA one mostly because it's fully modular. you helped out a lot thanks again!
