Hi Guys,

I wonder if anyone could assist me in building a workstation suitable of running:

  • Autodesk Inventor
    Autodesk Showcase
    AutoCAD

    Staad Pro - Structural Analysis

    Adobe Photosop
    Adobe Illustrator
    MS Office

Budget for this £600 to £800. Preferably looking to source all the parts from the UK. Would also like SSD if budget available.

I would also like to be able to run PC games. Not that concerned with running them at maximum quality as this will primarily be a workstation but I would like to make the jump from consoles to PC gaming as my eyes have recently been opened by a friend to the world of PC gaming.

I have keyboard, mouse and all the software including OS. I would like a monitor including if there is sufficient budget, however if there are greater gains to be had from spending it on the build I can manage with what I have until I can get something newer.

Thanks in advance.
Lefty.

I know it's WAY over budget but... IMO if you're gonna do it, do it propper. it's around £850 without a monitor.

Sorry to flip this thread on its head but I believe youd be the best man to help me.

Im leaving the job im currently in and going it alone (hence my requirement for the computer).

This morning I have found out that work have offered to let me buy my current setup for £600 inc. VAT. I was wondering if you could see if its worth it or would that £600 be better spent elsewhere?

The computer was built for us in the design department by our IT department. This is the specification (From CPU-Z):

Intel Xeon Ivy-Bridge E3-1245 V2 @ 3.4 Ghz

HP Mainboard

20 GB DDR 3 RAM dual channel (CPU-Z Says DRAM Freq = 798.1 MHz)
Believe its 2 banks of Kingston 8GB and 2 banks of Elpida 2 GB.

NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 MB (CORE=405MHz SHADER=810MHz MEMORY=1404MHz)

Sandisk SDSSDP256G 256GB SSD
& 1 TB HDD (spec unknown).

Will also come with:
BENQ 24" Monitor
DELL 24" Monitor
Genius Deathtaker Gaming Mouse
Standard Lenovo Keyboard.

Thanks in advance,
Lefty
