FPS Dropped after NVIDIA driver update

Hello.

I just updated my graphics driver to the latest one available. Here are my specs:

GPU: GeForce GT 540M
CPU: Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.2GHZ
Memory: 8.00GB RAM (7.91GB usable)
Resolution: 1366 x 768 60HZ
Driver Version: 353.30
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Did a test run on Dota 2 and it dropped my frame rate to 5FPS when I used to run it at 50-60FPS at mid-high settings. I've done a rollback, re-install, complete uninstall and re-install over and over again. Tried several older drivers and nothing brought back the game to my previous frame rate even if I put the game in the lowest setting possible. I've made sure the drivers are installed properly and used the graphics processor and not the integrated one too. I'm feeling hopeless right now because having a laptop that can't run games is simply not having a laptop at all.

If anyone can help, please do.

Best.

Download and install one of the previous drivers. 350.12 is the last driver that worked for me (GTX 970), and remember to perform a clean install, preferably with with DDU (Display driver uninstaller: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

These are the drivers I would NOT recommend installing: 353.30, 353.06 and 352.86 (all has been reported as unstable).

If the 350.12 isn't available, roll the graphics driver back to 347.88. Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much for your reply.

Tried both driver versions using DDU twice as you suggested and it didn't change anything. It has been two days since this happened and I noticed that my laptops temp is significantly higher than before. This might sound stupid, but did the driver update increase how much my graphics processor is working? I know the temp significantly reduces performance but I haven't had that issue before because I often clean my fan and have a cooling pad to boot. Any ideas?

Have you tried enabling V-sync? do you have any power-saving features enabled?

Yes, I have tried everything you suggested and nothing seems to work. But I've found that completely uninstalling the drivers make the game runner much more smoother (although it looks absolutely bad). Windows automatically replaces the graphics driver with just the VGA one which I guess can work as a temporary solution. Not very happy with this but at least it's something. Thank you so much for all your help. Much appreciated it.

Cheers.

Pretty bad. Seems like I may have totally fried the processor (if that's even possible):

At 0% = 63C (145F)
At 100% = 103C (217F)

*Never had this high of a temp before updating (only an average of 80-90C at 100% usage).

Updated to the latest one as you recommended and still no luck. But it's okay, I guess. I'm okay with just using the VGA adapter in the mean time, hoping to get a new (and better) laptop anyway.

Any thoughts on:

ASUS ROG G501 or G551 or ACER ASPIRE V15 NITRO? (All GTX960M)

Other than the Nitro being lighter and a bit cheaper, no other difference worth mentioning. The G551 has been criticized for its GPU throttling at longer gaming sessions so I guess that leaves the V15 Nitro. Actually wanted the G501 coz of its design and two-fan cooling system. I'll do a bit more research to see what the best option for me is. Might not even buy one at all but just in case I do, I'll have a decision :D

Thanks again for all your help. This is my first time using this forum and am extremely pleased to see such a friendly and helpful community. Best to you, my friend.
