Should I Z97 or H97?

I'm planning to build a gaming PC that I'll be able to upgrade in a few years and I was wondering, what motherboard should I use?
ASRock H97 PRO4
or
ASRock Z97 Anniversary?

Are you planning to overclock?
If so, then you need the Z97. If not, then save a couple of bucks to invest in better graphics hardware and get the H97.

Can still do it on the H97 board. It has pretty much the same features are the Z97 except that you cannot overclock.

You would be correct. The H97 board only has one PCI-e 16x slot. If you would like to SLI/Crossfire, go for the Z97 instead.

No problem.
I cannot comment on that. On the face of it, a chipset that is built for overclocking would be more stable than one that is not.
Perhaps those folks have just had a bad experience with a specific motherboard model or unit.
ASRock is known for building decent well priced hardware, so you should be good.
