I got this laptop YESTERDAY and it worked completely fine. (Note that the laptop i got was also on display since that was the only one left) Woke up today to find that it just starts up with a black screen and movable cursor.
I tried ctrl alt del-- it didnt work
I tried shift f8/f8-- it didnt work,
I tried shift 5x and it didnt work
My laptop is a MSI GS60 4K-605 Intel Core i7-5700
The only thing i downloaded on this laptop was Origin (from EA) and Dragon Age Inquisition.

I experienced this problem a month or two ago. I came to find out that my graphics card was bad, and I just installed it the day prior. I sent it back and got a new one and my computer has worked great since then. That was in a desktop though.

Since your laptop is brand new, you should try to contact MSI to see if you can get a replacement.

If you want to try to fix it yourself, try booting your computer into safe mode. Pop your Windows 8 install CD into your computer and boot to it. You should be able to navigate into "Advanced Startup" then select safe mode. See if you can even do that. It would eliminate any problems with video drivers, which could be causing you problems.

I had black screeen. Solution for Acer Aspire ES 15 was turn off laptop, turn it over, just above the black label at the top of the ACER lable is a tiny pinprick hole. Take a fine needle and gently push into the hole, you will feel a slight movement, take out needle. Turn your laptop back on, and wait a minute, your screen should be back to normal. This information was given to me by the Technical Department for ACER. 3 months later, had same problem, did what i had done before and was able to get back to normal again. Remember to use a fine needle to reach the bottom of the hole. Hope this works for you.
