I recently been looking too check if i was up to date and i see that i had a few updates but the problem is that i can't seem too manage too download nor install these updates i been looking on google for answers or solutions i contacted microsoft support for assistance and the only thing they came up with or too fix this problem is too use advanced tools but i would need too pay 149 but i rather not, since my parents won't probably agree on me wasting 149 just for an update fix anyways, i ran a scf /scannow and i got a few errors like windir\logs\cbs\cbs.logs and since i am a newbie at computer i don't know what that means or how to even fix that. I remember him saying i had a problem about some registry files aswell but no clue on how to fix that or even get too it . If someone could really help me get these updates rolling as windows 10 is around the corner i really don't want too spend more money on another pc. Thanks in advanced :)

Solution
I've got updates sort of working now, here is what I had to do:

1) Delete files within c:\windows\softwaredistribution\downloads\
2) download and run the Fix-it on this pagehttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058 (I had to run it, install a couple of updates, then run it again a couple of times before things stabilized)
3) Only install 4 or 5 updates at a time, reboot after every section.

Before you spend any money on the advanced tools or another computer, give it some time. I'm running into the exact same problem on a build I did this weekend, and am starting to see threads about it pop up on forums. I think windows update is having issues right now, but they haven't been nailed down yet.

I'm thinking the update to windows 10 won't work on anyone already having problems with windows update until they get that sorted out (it's acting like there may be one or two bad updates that I'm running into, not the full system being down). Any legitimate microsoft tools you can get from microsoft.com, or if it's one of the ones they charge to use the technician will send you the download link or do a remote desktop to your machine and install it themselves
