I have 2 sticks of 8gb ram that came from a quad channel kit of 8x8gb and am currently putting together another build. Can I use these 2 sticks i already have on a dual channel mobo with dual channel CPU??. The ram isn't on the supported list (990fx killer) either but would this be a problem as long as speed and timings matched??

Yes if DDR3, you don't list what data rate or CPU so we have no idea of what they might/can run at? But yes they should run on the 990FX mobo, I've had my 2900 sticks in my Crosshair (at 2600 briefly, but they run fine for days at 2400). DRAM in a given package has simply been tested to ensure all sticks will play, there's nothing physical to them to be a 'dual' or quad' stick, each stick of DRAM is a simple 64bit device, if you run them in dual channel the CPU 'sees' them as a single 128 bit device, or 'quad' the MC 'sees' them as a 256 bit device. ;)

Thanks tradesman that's saved me some money on another kit then. CPU I'm using is fx8320 and the ram I intend of making use of is 1330mhz 9-9-9-24-2n. Do you think I would run into issues overclocking the ram to 1600 or 1866mhz?.
