I have just built myself a computer, here are the details:
Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 7200 RPM 1600 MHz
Video Card: ASUS STRIX GTX970 4GB
HDD: Seagate 3TB
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
Optical Drive: ASUS 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA
Power Supply: XFX PRO 650W Core Edition 80+ Bronze
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Black 400R Mid Tower
Wireless Adapter: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless
OS: Windows 8.1

I do gaming videos for Youtube, so what I will be using this computer for mainly is playing games, recording, and editing/rendering videos (the editing software I use is Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12). What I want to know is, what things should be put on which drive? (The OS, the editing software, the games, etc).

I've considered putting the OS on the SSD (resulting in the SSD holding the C:\ drive) and putting the media files on the HDD, then installing the games and recording software on the SSD with the editing on the HDD. However, I've also noticed that even if you install some programs on the HDD directly, some pieces remain in the C:\ drive (like with the editing software, stuff like the prerender and such), many being unable to be moved over to the HDD.

Seeing as how SSDs have a limited number of writes, I don't want to install things on the wrong drive. Which drives should I put programs? Also, will having the editing software being on the HDD with pieces stuck on the SSD cause write problems with the SSD when it comes to rendering?

Or would it simply be easier and safer to install the OS on the HDD completely, and just put the games and recording software on the SSD?

Definitely put the OS and all programs on the SSD. It will take years of heavy use before you consume the "limited" writes. Old SSDs were limited, but newer ones really don't have a problem.
I would put media files or large games on the HDD.
Make sure that you have a backup plan for both drives for all important files.

U should defenitely put the OS and the editing software with ur games at the ssd. Due to its faster writing and reading speed u will be able to boot faster render fatser etc. I suggest u, later in a future upgrade to buy another ssd and anothe hhd in order to raid the ssds at 0 and the hdds at 5 and u wont lose anything.
