Need help picking a motherboard, RAM, and CPU cooler for AMD FX-8350

I am buying a 8350, and I can't decide on a motherboard, ram, and a cooler for it. I bought a Rosewill RSV-L4000 4U rack mount case and a nice 1300W PSU. The case will have 2 Norco SS-500 SAS hot-swap cages in the front. In addition to all the regular stuff a PC has, mine will have a PCie SAS RAID card, and a SCSI RAID card. I would like the 990 chipset.

Motherboard:
I need at least 2 full pcie slots (1 for a high-end GPU, other for SAS RAID). 3 or more is better, as long as I can have one PCI slot, just in case. The motherboard shouldn't have problems handling 2 RAID cards. Motherboard audio won't be that important, because I'm getting an external audio interface. The motherboard should be very fast, but also from a reliable brand.

RAM:
I'm looking at buying one 8GB module for now, I don't know what to get. Is RAM speed that important? Should I go for 16GB?

Cooler:
Should be able to fit in the 4U rack mount case, and should cool well and be as silent as possible. Should I buy more expensive thermal paste?

Thanks

ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard, you can't go wrong especially for the price.

G.SKILL F3-1600C9S-8GXM, importance of RAM Frequency isn't as much as having two modules. With a single module, the system only runs in single channel. With two modules, it can run in dual channel, theoretically doubling memory overall bandwidth. So you should definitely consider 2 x 8GB, or 2 x 4GB.

F3-1866C9D-16GXM, this kit is $10 off at Newegg, great deal.

F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM, this is 8GB, $9 off, also a great deal.

For cooling, thermal paste isn't expensive in general, so get a Artic Silver 5 to go along with the CPU cooler and it'll be fine.

This CPU cooler is silent and it should fit in that case just fine

Cooler Master GeminII S524 Ver 2

I will look into those, it would be nice to get a few more suggestions before I make the purchases. The motherboard is nice, but it doesn't have a firewire port for one of the audio interfaces I might buy. I could get a firewire card, though. Does anyone else have more suggestions?

Do I need a more expensive motherboard? Would it give me more speed? What do I get with a more expensive one?

Will most RAM sticks give me enough clearance for a cooler?

Thanks

The speed of your pc doesn't depend on your mobo very much. A nice mobo is like between 100-200€. If u want to oc your pc parts then u must concider looking for an oc capable mobo. Now in terms of cooling, I suggest u to watercool your cpu. The fx 8350 is a bit known for high temps. For a watercooling solution the ram height and its clearance isn't a problem but if u want to go with an aircooling solution then u must check the comoatibility of the heatsink.

SAS raid card will be for up to 10 hard drives in the hot swap bays. I have 11 SAS Seagate Cheetahs that I got for free, along with a few more server class hard drives. Most cards are x8, I think.

SCSI card will be for my tape library, and also for the internal LTO3 drive I will be installing in the front. I can either use my existing pci-x card in 32 bit mode, in a pci slot, or buy a pcie card.

It will be a cross between a home computer, a workstation, and a server.

So for a mobo I suggest u the msi 990 fxa gaming (it has the chipset u want), for the ram i suggest to u to go with the kingston savage 8gb 1600mhz, and for cooling the corsair h100i. U can go with all of corsair's watercooling all-in-one solutions from the one 120mm h55 to the h100i gtx(for all-in-one watercooling I prefer corsair)

Actually, water coolers start at around $60...

Will water cooling be noisier than air? Where would I place the radiator in a rack case?

I wanted Intel, but only if it was cheaper...

Is there an H97 board that has the required pci-e slots?
Probably not.

Even Z97 might not work because the second pci-ex16 slot will be paired with the first for dual gpu's which means it is not available .

AMD 990FX boards have x16 bandwidth to each of the first two x16 slots. Add in one more x4 and that should cover it

I purchased the Asus motherboard that was mentioned here. Now I need some more suggestions for coolers that will fit my case. I want the cooler to be as quiet as possible, but I want good CPU cooling performance too.
Thanks.
