Can copy and move files from external hard drive but I can't open them?

Hey guys, a problem has recently occurred when I try to play files on my external hard drive. All the files on the hard drive show up but when I try and play them, MMPC opens up and says file not found. When I transfer any of the files from my hard drive to my laptop it asks for "Permission" to transfer the file but it plays fine in MMPC. Is there any reason for this? Also, everytime I connect my external hard drive it says the the recycle bin on the drive is corrupted and even after clicking "Yes" to delete it, nothing changes. There are some sub folders on the hard drive with files in it that I can view, the problem is the ones in the main drive folder I can't.

Hi there Ryu Sera,

First, you can try taking ownership of the drive and then grant permissions: http://www.preyerplanning.com/take-ownership-of-entire-hard-drive-in-windows-7.pdf
In case this sorts the permission issue out, you need to back up the data stored on the drive as soon as possible.

After that, you can just test the drive and see whether there is something wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Scanning the drive with some antivirus/malware program will not hurt as well.
