How do I get two different spec RAM's to work together?

Hey guys,

I have an AM2+ Gigabyte Motherboard paired with an AMD 9550 quad core processor. I decided to upgrade the RAM on my computer so I got one used Transcend DDR2 800 RAM off ebay. I paired the new ram with my old ram which runs at 667 and it worked fine for the first 3 months.

Last night, I did not get any display so I removed the new ram and voila there is display.

Problem:
No display with two RAMs (all fans are running fine, everything is normal)
Computer restarts every 10 seconds with new RAM.
Works fine with the old 667 RAM.

I don't know if I have the option to activate XMP. Although, there is an option to manually set RAM speed in the BIOS. I manually adjusted the speed to 667 but it didn't work.

If the 800Mhz one used to work but now causes problems, then it's malfunctioning. It has nothing to do with compatibility with the old one. You have to replace it. As far as compatibility between Ram sticks is concerned, the general rule is that if you have 2 sticks of the same specs they should work, if one has lower specs than both work at those lower specs.

In practice, a lot of times 2 sticks are simply incompatible with each other (even with the same specs) but that means they don't work together to begin with. It's not something that shows up later. Just buy 2 new sticks that are the same just to be safe.

Then the RAM has developed a fault , Can you get an RMA for it? Else scrap it , wont do any Good. Buy a DDr3 RAM . My advice corsair vengeance 1600Mhz . Cheap and effective quality product.

hmm... well to be honest, I am upgrading my computer and I have ordered the new parts. I wanted to upgrade the RAM on this one and send it across to my folks, since their usage is not demanding. Since I've already paid for the RAM and it worked for a good three months I don't see a point in spending on DDR2 Rams. Isn't there a way to get this one to work?

If the RAM stick olny worked for 3 months, then you should RMA it. It is definitely within warranty. Other than that, components like that can't be repaired. It's just chips on a pcb. If one fails you throw it away or replace it.

Sorry to say but this is the hard truth. You cant repair any computer chips yourself , or even get it repaired since it will cost way more than the product cost. You can cross check if it still causes issues in another system .That will verify the malfunctioning . You haven't changed any settings of timings or frequency I suppose.
