I lost the password on a macbook air (OS 10.9) and found out that i could reinitialise it with the OS tools without loosing any data.
That's good news because i've recovered everything... but suddenly i release that anyone could do the same and access all my data? That means the only way to keep my data private is to activate the encryption on the hard drive volume?

Ok thanks guys. Data is maybe not the biggest issue but websites accounts recorded passwords are because they provide access to a lot of things one doesn't want to share. So I can (either not record passwords), either use a wallet kind of tool to encrypt these, or use and encrypted partition to store the OS or applications? Any reco?
