Asus Z97-K cooling fan options and connectors

Hi Guys. I hope this thread is in the right place, I've looked through the 'official support thread' but there seems to be a few outstanding queries than haven't been answered in a while so I thought this was the best way to go about this query.....

I'm planning to build a rig with an Asus Z97-K mobo and have got round to choosing a case. According to the spec page https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97K/specifications/
it only has 2 x 4 pin chassis fan connectors. does this mean that that other than the cpu cooler and without using splitters that I can only have a case with 2 cooling fans?

next logical question, I assume that these 4 pin connectors can be split? if so does anyone know how many fans I'd be able to support and what kind of splitter I'd need?

This obviously has quite an impact on the case I choose as there's no point in paying out for one with 7 fans if I can only connect the two!

p.s. this mobo comes mega cheap as part of a bundle so I don't want to go with a separate mobo just to support more fans.

or fan that includes 1->2 PWM signal splitter cable in the package.

thank you for that. ok it's starting to make a bit more sense now. my mobo has 2 x 4 pin so assuming I want to connect 6 case fans (presumably needing 3 pin) will a couple of the following do the trick?

That is 4 Pin MOLEX to 3 x 3 Pin Splitter. Preferably search for 4 pin PWM, in order to get better control over fan's rpm.

ok so as a complete noob let me just get back to basics a sec....I thought that all case fans needed 3 pin? (apart from cpu cooler) do the PWM's all require 4 pin? I guess that would make sense as to the mobo having 4 pin only....

also I will have a fan controller with my case. if I connect via 3 pin would that make the fan controller redundant?

3-pin fans use voltage control over the RPM. See Linear Voltage Regulation

Fan controller will do the job.

hang about....so the fan controller it's self will connect via 4 pin molex and already have the connections for each fan?

how stupid do I feel. researching a problem that won't even be there as a fan controller comes with the case!
