New build won't turn on.

Can I have your system specs and what case are you using? Is your motherboard touching the case? That happened to me I forgot to put the screws that lift up the motherboard and the electricity would leak out on the case and wouldn't power the motherboard.

Spent hours trying to do it, I think I've got it right but even when i put the screwdriver across it still doesn't start.

corsair cs 650

I am missing one stand off although the rest are in so its lifted up off the case

Where the heck did you read that? No, absolutely not, look at the diagram and place the pins from the cables in accordingly, that is if you didn't fry the motherboard with that little screw driver trick.

It was advised on this and many other websites. It wouldn't fry the motherboard as all it does is complete the circuit like you would if you pressed the on switch.

If you did that to the right pins it could work, I guess if you did that to the wrong pins nothing would happen. I still wouldn't feel good taking a screwdriver to those things.

Does the CPU socket have adequate power? I think it takes 4x2 pins to power it
