Not sure where to ask for help, the most relevant place even the 124 is *I think?* indicative of a hardware failure, im only getting it with a particular software. I really don't know where I should post this if anyone has suggestions I'd appreciate it.
----------------------
So lately ive been getting bsod error code 124 when i play guildwars 2 after 2-3 hours in.

This has happened with no other game. I have played more graphically intensive games for longer with no issues. Witcher 3 and skyforge namely.

I bought some more ram just prior to this and thought that may be the issue, diagnostics and un-installations proved otherwise. (corsair vengeance) *I still crash*

ran furmark for about 2 hours, heaven benchmark, windows ram diagnostic and so far haven't ran into any issues. ran occt for an hour as well.

ive also ran prime 95 for 1 hour (plan to run it overnight tonight) and plan to run gtav in the background on max settings for about 2 hours (as we speak) to see if I crash.

no games artifact or show any indication of failure. I think my psu isnt the best and is on it's way out *I dont think it's going bad, just it has slight coil whine that's extremely annoying* (refurbished hx 750) but it's held up with everything else so I can't see how it can give out on guildwars 2. I just can't understand how guildwars 2 alone could crash my computer. But I have 0 issues with anything else so far.

my pc isn't saving crash dump file for some reason.

My overclocks are all done using the gigabyte easytune software, seems relevant.
gtx 980ti *msi twin* factory clocked
i7 4790k oc to 4.6
plan to use 16 gigs of ram but testing with my original 8 sticks @ 1866 (ocd from 1600 i think is there base)
hx 750 powersupply

That cooler should be enough to keep it cool. You may want to double check that the Pump and Fan are spinning up to full speed. IF they are you may want to think about reseating the cooler plate to ensure it is making proper contact with the CPU.

I am not saying this is causing the issue but your temps are high and you may want to be sure everything is good with the cooling system.

If you think ram might be the issue, try running memtest86+ and post here the results.
It should turn out with no errors, except in test 13, hammering test (Don't bother about that).
Also make sure you've installed the RAM on the correct slot according to your motherboard manual.

do you get the same error when the system is set to stock settings? *removing the OC*

you are correct that error code 124 is a hardware fault.

My recommendation is to run a full hardware test suite consisting of the following:

run Prime 95 for a minimum of 2 hours, 12 is best. run this on blend. This tests CPU and mem controller
Run Intel Burn test for 20 runs ans stress set to maximum. This tests CPU and mem controller
Run Memtest86+. run from boot as this program has its own interface and runs independent of OS. run for 4 passes minimum, tests Ram.
run OCCT on GPU test Shaders set to 3, error check enabled and run for 1 hour. this tests GPU.
Run HDDscan 3.3 THis reads smart sensors and will test HDD's if needed.

DO not use OCCT's other tests s they are very inaccurate and not dependable.

EDIT: Guild Wars 2 is very CPU intensive and not so much GPU so my guess is Memory or CPU issue.

did prime 95 for 12 hours since i last replied, did occt gpu already (no issues on either front) ill update as i complete more test until something fails.

GTAV and witcher 3 both ran for over 3 hours at complete max settings (1080) at 60 fps with no issues. (this wasn't part of the suite but I just figured id mention it)

during prime 95 and gtav my cpu was around 85-90 degrees if that matters.

The most important thing to test is not gpu or cpu. Go straight to the chase, the issue seems to be from memory.
So run memtest, it will quickly tell you what's the issue if it's RAM failiure.

85° to 90°C is way to high for the Intel 4000 series CPU's. They should not go over 72°C under full load.

What cooler are you using?

Do not run programs and stress test at the same time. Doing so can either cause the test to fail or not find an error when there is one. Be sure to run Intel Burn test also. The reason for running both tests is sometimes one will miss an error where the other will pick it up. Always run both just do so at different times. Running both at the same time will cause a crash.
