I have recently bought a new Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK motherboard, Intel I5-4690K CPU and a new Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD.

So after putting it all together and installing windows 7 64 bit, I've noticed that on restart, it will hang on the gigabyte screen for a little longer than normal, then the monitor will check for a source (pretty much what it does if you turn the pc off) then the monitor will just switch off. I'll have to force shutdown by holding the power button, leave it for about 20 seconds, then turn it back on. Nine times out of ten it will then boot normally. The one out of ten i'll have to force shutdown again.

As you can expect, installing windows took a fair bit since it likes to restart a few times.

I'm not sure why it would do this though? Is this the motherboard? SSD? Should I be returning the hardware and getting a replacement? Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Solution
I solved that very same issue by updating the BIOS even though the BIOS update notes didn't mention fixing that problem.
I was actually updating the BIOS for a different reason (Fast Boot support) but it fixed the restart problem too.

Mind you, mine's an ASRock board not a Gigabyte one. Still worth a try I reckon.

Don't think that's going to work here. I've already updated the BIOS to version F7 as per the Bios page for the board.

I turned my PC on this morning and it wasn't loading and was doing what it does on restart and switching off the monitor etc. So I pressed f12 and it then immediately started loading windows like it should... i will need to test it some more to see if this works every time. If it does, is there some setting which im missing then that would automatically do this?
