as the title implies, I was casually browsing the web and then suddenly this "browser update" thing shows up on my browser. I try to close it as I know it will give me a virus or something else and i manage to back out to home screen.

At that time I assume I accidentally pressed it or something because now on screen I have a thing that claims to be from UK police accusing me of watching child pornography and I assume that's completely bogus because I haven't.

(i can see the thing running in my pull-down bar as "." , a full stop, but i can't open anything as this is always on top.)

So, as I've lost control of my device, I've decided to download this utility from android developers that should allow me to completely factory reset the phone and I don't care too much because all I have on there is a few apps and stuff.

What I was really wondering is will a factory reset do the job? it shows it running as an app so i guess it will. Any techie guys out there that can help me would be really appreciated.

Thanks so much for any help.

A factory reset returns the phone to the state as it was when it came out of the factory, untoched. It deletes all user data (gallery photos, user-downloaded apps, etc.). It should remove the virus/malware. When you do it, I suggest you get an antivirus for your Android phone. ESET offers free mobile security, so I suggest you use their antivirus as it is among one of the best antivirus companies. Good luck!
