My WD harddisk that I installed Windows 7 have bad sectors now. I am thinking of buying a new SSD disk and move everything to the new disk. I am wondering if the bad sectors will be cloned/move to the new disk too? I guess the bad sectors data might not be accessible?

I heard samsung have some migration software, can it move my system to new Samsung SSD disk?

Thanks

Hey there, smalltech!

I'm sorry to hear about your WD drive! :( However, I wouldn't recommend cloning it when there are bad sectors on it. The cloning process makes an identical copy of your failing hard drive, meaning that it would also copy the damaged data on the sectors.
If you can still access any data on your WD HDD, I'd recommend you to simply copy it, backing it up to a different drive or a storage device.
Unfortunately, yes, if you go with it you won't be able to access the corrupted data stored in those bad sectors.

I'd also strongly recommend checking the warranty of your drive here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=m7H6HA
If it's still under warranty, you should be able to RMA it and get a replacement from us. You just need to notify our customer support and send an RMA request.

Good luck! Hope I was helpful! :)

And this is why I stay away from WD 3 bad drives in the last 5 years and they say Seagate is bad yeah right!

Applies to Windows Vista/7

1.Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
2.Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.
3.Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. ...
4.Click Start.

Try these to try to repair your drive for the time being back up afterwards and buy A new drive..

johnnyb105, would the process of Error Checking further stress the hard disk?
I mean I get blue screen and hang sometimes now, I am afraid the Error checking would stress the disk and hang it.

Would Error Checking cure the bad sectors?

Like you, I had bad sectors almost every one to two years. I have been using WD black 1TB for the past 6 to 7 years. I always heard that seagate is worse, so I sticked to WD, but WD does not work well too. It is a waste of time to change hard disk and reinstall everything.
