Ram showing wrong memory size

Hi friends, as i am using RAM of 2 x 4gb = 8 gb ram , but few days back it was showing 4gb(3.7gb in use) instead og 8gb(7.49gb) but today i removed and reconnected ram and switched on my lappi when i checked its showing 2gb(1.87gb in use) why this happening like this.? Thank full for ur response.

The ram is probably bad....try putting in just one of the 4Gb sticks and booting up and see what happens. Note, I have seen sometimes where when you do them separate, each time you see 4, but when you put them together, you get strange responses and in such a case the sticks are not compatible.
