Is 8gb of RAM enough?

Hi, I know for the most part that 8gb of RAM is very sufficient for most systems. But, I was wondering if 16gb of RAM will be beneficial in my situation. I have a gaming rig with 3 screens connected. Two 1080p monitors and a 1080p tv. With windows 10 rolling out and new multitasking additions, will my computer be more snappy when switching between monitors and moving windows with 16gb of RAM? Thanks

No it will not be any faster with 16gb of ram unless you go over 8gb which you are not going to do unless you are one of those people who like to have 100 tabs open at any given time. For gaming you most certinalty dont need it yet, for example in gta v i use about 5.5gb max, crysis 3 i use 5gb, bf4 i use 4.5gb, witcher 3 about 5.5gb and those are some of the most demanding games out. Having 3 screens will only use more VRAM on your gpu it will not use more system ram.

In the future this may not be true but for the time being 8gb of ram is plenty for the average user, I have never been even close to using all of my 8gb of ram.

I can not guarantee you that 16GB will give you a performance increase because i do not have first hand experience with multiple monitors, however since you have a lot of monitors i am guessing you will be multi tasking. If you use programs that are heavy RAM consumers the 16GB will be beneficial, just an assumption.

I agree with Dunlop0078 in part. It's correct that 8GB is good for the average user however it does depend on what you're doing. I have noticed wile playing Planetside 2 my memory usage will exceed 10GB at times but keep in mind this is Windows + Planetside running combined memory usage 10GB+. Then there is this interesting article found here on Tom's http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-ram-endurance,3475.html.

Well the only reason planetside 2 uses that much ram is because it has a severe memory leak, ram usage will keep climbing the longer you play in fact i think it will go over 16gb if you play long enough. The game only requires about 6gb if it worked as intended.

16GB will be benificial if you multitask a lot, use memory centric apps, i.e. imaging, video, CAD, VMs or things that employ large data sets. Programs and even games continue to use more and more DRAM, remember just a co0uple years back people were saying you'd never need more than 4GB and a couple or so years before that they said the same about 2GB ;)

16GB won't speed up your game, but pcs ARE headed toward 16Gb as "standard", Tom's article on RAM myths recommends 16GB, and Tom's last pc build all had 16 GB of RAM. Many people seem to ignore the fact of memory leaks, which is a real problem with many programs. WIndows 8.1 uses almost 3Gb right out of the box, this will increase as fixes are installed over time, TSRs can easily add another 1/2 GB or more, and there goes almost 1/2 of your standard 8GB of RAM before you ever open an application

Windows 8.1 does not use near 3gb out of the box, I am on a year old 8.1 install and it is currently using 1.6gb with chrome open. It is at about 1.1gb with nothing open at desktop.
