Hello I was thinking of upgrading my r7 260x and athlon x4 750k to an i5 4690k and r9 380, But I was wondering if this will be future proof enough for at least 2-3 years or should I save some more and get an r9 390 for 100 bucks more. Im really scared about the fact of getting a job so if someone has advice on that note please do so. thanks

You should definitely get a job if you have the time lol....

As far as 4690k+r9 390, yeah that'll be good for a couple years, probably even more. No such as "futureproof" tech is evolving and always will be, every tomorrow brings something better, no use in waiting to upgrade.

12-18 months is a stretch, more like 12-18 weeks. :D

But will a r9 380 be able to hit 60fps on high settings with most games and some future games?

Will a high end gaming pc be that outdated that quick?

Not really, we can't tell you when the new big breakthrough PC killer will be released, but a good $800-$1000 PC will be running high end games for years until it hits any major road bumps.

I run an MSI R9 290, which is a bit more expensive and a couple years older, but I love it, they're both similar, the 380 isn't bad, it's much newer, I'd say it could.

But is a r9 380 with an i5 4690k high end enough or should I spend 100 bucks more for an r9 390 or should I maybe even wait for an 380x

I would steer away from the 390, it's a lot more money and not a lot of gain.

So because of the fact that im a little afraid of getting a job it would be smart to first to buy the i5 4690k with an cheap z97 mobo and later buy an r9 380 or 380x if it ever releases. Or do you have a better plan for me?

You can't save for a beast PC without income friend :) I'd go with the 380
