I am currently really bored of the games I have atm: BF3/4, Crysis 3, Fifa 15, Farcry 4, shogun 2 FOS, league of legends, counter strike, cities skyline, gta 5, (its not many I know).
Its a shame there are many games I want but are coming out September on wards.

Now I am gonna sound quite picky with what game I want so I apologise!:

-I want to purchase a new (?) game (not crazy expensive) that has come out in the past 2 years or so (with nice graphics)
-I dont like rpg games like witcher 3, darksouls, dragon age, shadow of mordor etc (anything with swords in a way).
-I do like games with guns/snipers/silence/stealth type ones. I also like stragety games, but not many interest me atm so wouldn't want a new one.
-It would be better (?) if I found a game that had a campaign and also an online (like bf3/4), however I dont think campaigns are thought into that much if there is online).
-A lot of the games that you will probably suggest, I will have seen qute a few of review, videos and stats, getting a 4.5..8/10.
-Extras: No horror games, I do enjoy customization, to be fun (although most games probably are for them to be released), will provide me with a long playing time so I wont get too bored.

Hope this helps! :) Appreciate all suggestions.

P.S I KNOW fallout is like voted the best game but it kinda doesn't draw me in. But thats just me :3

Sniper Elite V2 and 3
Tom's Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist

Both have singleplayer and 2-player co-op campaigns. They have been on sale recently on Steam.

Splinter Cell focusses on stealth, unlockable upgrades, specific game modes. Some sniping and other combat types.

Sniper Elite is a WW2 sniper sim, custom difficulty levels and realistic bullet physics. Can be as easy or as hard as you like for the challenge.

Both run fantastic on my FX 8 core and GTX 970 @ 1080p on Ultra.

Counter Strike Global Offensive is a must, i think it is about $15-$20 on steam, I am from the UK, so I am not so sure, but it is a great FPS game, it is also unique, and addictive in a strange way, but a great game and a must have!

I actually looked at blacklist and was so close to buying it. With the games I looked at, I went on the IGN reviews and that said blacklist's downside were the graphics and the voice acting (not that it matters with me) . But I am sure my gtx 760 would make it look good?

I played the sniper elite 2 demo (on xbox) and kinda enjoyed it. It just seemed that if you were caught up in enemies, your side arm pistol would be kind of useless and then become kinda hard (silly thoughts I know). But still looks fun with the slow mo bullet kills.

Just wondering, as these 2 games are a little old, are the online servers still full/active ? Also is it worth buying ghost recon future soldier ? I heard campaign is fun and has lots of missions/ But not sure if online is still active. Thats the problem with these games, they might have fun campaign, but as there old, multiplayer might be dead

Thanks

You should try Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl. The graphics can be a bit dated but it is still a great game. Not really scary I'd say (unless you are really squeamish). None the less the game has survival elements, and just like any good Russian game, vodka is a way to heal yourself. The story is fun, the game play makes you feel like you are in that Russian nuclear wasteland....well because you are.

Dont really like horroy games. :/ although it has good reviews. Appreciate the suggestion. Still not sure what game haha. Old games 2-3 years with MP, servers are usually dead. I would like a game with MP although if there is a game with a good lnog story, I wouldnt mind either

The Mass Effect games are RPGs, the first one more so. Without spoiling anything, they're about travelling around the galaxy using an ancient transport network, dealing with an increasingly ominous threat. If you like sci-fi, I'd highly recommend them all. I consider the first game to be the best for story, the second game to be best for character development and the third best for combat. They're all magnificent games though. The second and third games are almost identical in terms of gameplay. The first game is very different, with a bigger emphasis on exploration. If you do get them, make sure you get all of the story DLC for the second and third games. It adds some really good stuff.

I was also going to recommend Sniper Elite V2 and 3. V2 is less about stealth and more about marksmanship. In many cases you'll be forced into situations where it's more of a shooting gallery than a stealth game. It's one of my favourite games of all time. The third game is much more focused on stealth. Regarding the sidearm, if you take a silenced pistol you can put more emphasis on stealth. If not, it will be more of a reserve emergency weapon if you don't have a submachine gun.

There's also Zombie Army Trilogy, made by the same people as the Sniper Elite games. It's essentially Sniper Elite but with no stealth and thousands of zombies. I finished it recently, and absolutely loved it. It's not an easy game though.

Another game I can recommend is Spec Ops: The Line. It isn't new (I think it's from 2010), but it has excellent gameplay and a fantastic story.

I know you said you don't really like anything with swords, but I can highly recommend Skyrim. With mods it's my favourite game of all time. I've completely lost myself in that world, and I've never roleplayed a game so much. I had a sleeping routine (in bed around 21:30, up around 06:30), I'd plan my journeys, making sure I ate enough and carried survival gear, I had a horse to move around quickly, which I accidentally shot in the bum after spending nearly 200 hours with him by my side (I'll never forget you Pritt Stick :() and I had my own house where I stored all my shiny trinkets. And it's beautiful.

What about puzzle games? The two Defense Grid games are excellent Tower Defense games. I can also recommend Kerbal Space Program, one of the most satisfying games I've ever played.

Fallout 3 didn't interest me very much either. Until I played it. It was more or less all I played for 8 months.

Before you say no see the gameplay on YouTube for Trine or Trine 2, you will LOVE that game, especially the second one.

It is magical, from voice to graphics to gameplay.

Hi OP

Have you considered Ark?

It is in Early access (alpha) but i must admit... its amazing. new content uploaded weekly, fixes, improvements, the game is definitely heading in the right direction. Check out a few vids. of the game-play etc. it has PVP, PVE and even solo Private or Lan if you want.graphics are pretty. ( it utilizes the unreal 4 engine ) It has guns, crafting, survival, and dinos. I mean who wouldn't want to ride a t-rex? Check it out. i rate it extremely highly.

wow thank you for the suggestions. Below are a long list (sorry) of games that I have the choice of buying. I know there all really different so i have sectioned them in groups.

Group 1: (I think voted the best games ever)

-Half life 2
-bioshock
-fallout 3
-mass effect
-portal

Would I need to start with no.1 with any of these games or can i jump straight into the popular one e.g. mass effect 2. Also I want one with the least horror.

Group 2 (shooters with stealth, guns etc)

-spec ops
-Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
-Ghost recon future soldier
-Splinter cell blacklist

Any more suggestions similar to these are appreciated

Portal has limited re playability.
half life 2 is excellent and i think the story from half life 1 is mainly patched into half life to just to keep you upto date with what went on.
bioshock is great, however it has its creepy/scary horror-ish ( is that a word) moments, so id suggest against that one.
mass effect is also good. i personally couldn't get into any of them ( 1,2 and 3) although alot of people have said its an immersive experience.
With the Shooter games, i would hands down out of group 2, choose Splinter cell. its in my opinion the best stealthy shooter game in the list.

You're very welcome.

I haven't played Half Life 2, but it has been recommended to me numerous times. The first game gave me the worst motion sickness I've ever experienced, so I haven't gone near the second one. However, I think the first Portal is built on the same engine, and that didn't really give me any issues. I'd highly recommend that and the second one. I've never laughed so much while playing a game.

I recently played Bioshock, but quit less than half way through. It's very atmospheric, but I found the gameplay repetitive, the story seemed drawn out and I found the constant backtracking irritating. Just not for me.

I'd recommend Fallout 3. A huge world to explore, a character that you can customise to however you want to play, tons of stuff to do and pitch-black humour. I'll be replaying this soon.

As for Mass Effect, I'd recommend starting with the first one. It is very different to the later 2 though. I know someone who has only played the third one, and considers it one of their all-time favourite games. I know someone who likes these kinds of games but couldn't get into the first one so didn't try the later ones. I also know people that, like me, started at the beginning and fell in love with the whole franchise. It may be worth watching gameplay footage of each game to decide where you should start.

Spec Ops The Line is a great game, but doesn't really have much replayability. It does however have some of the best storytelling I've seen in a game, along with exciting and varied combat.

I love stealth and marksmanship (two big factors as to why I love the Sniper Elite games), but I've not seen many positive things about the Sniper series of games. From the footage I've seen, they don't really look very good.

I haven't played the Ghost Recon games but I love that sort of stuff, have them all and fully intend to play them at some point. I played Conflict: Global Storm on my PS2 and thouroughly enjoyed it every time.

The Splinter Cell games are amongst my all-time favourites. I've only played the first 4, though I have the fifth (Conviction) and sixth (Blacklist) installed and ready to go. I tend to play the Splinter Cell games in winter, when the nights are long. I'll turn off all the lights and play in the dark.

We seem to like the same kinds of games. I intend to play Max Payne 3 at some point, so maybe that's something you would also enjoy. Did you try Tomb Raider? That is a magnificent game. As is Deus Ex Human Revolution. You can play that stealthily. It's also one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. There are also the Assassin's Creed games, though I've only played the first 4, and only enjoyed the first 3. Batman Arkham Asylum perhaps? Some of the finest voice acting I've ever witnessed in a game, fantastic gameplay and really good stealth options.

If you want strategy there are the Supreme Commander games. They aren't new by any means, but they're very good and apparently still very active online. The most recent XCOM games (Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within) are also excellent.

If you want to see what GTA is like with the "Epicness" setting at "Whattheholyfuzzballsjusthappened?!?", try Just Cause 2.

Do you have to get only one game? You could probably get 5-10 of these older titles for the same price as a single modern one.

Holy snap what a ton of useful information. Good reviews of games (even though I shouldn't look at one persons reviews, it gives me a good indication of whats good and not.)!

I am gonna sound really bad in saying this but the deus ex games graphics arent top notch. I know I know, games arent just about the graphics and I even stated at the beginning of the thread that i want a good game with a good story, but graphics are also kinda a factor with me, which is what pushed half life 2 out the list. Sort of similar with fallout 3 aswell but you said its good and i LOVE customization in games.

Yes it does seem we have same interest in games. Max payne, and all the games in september are a must for me, I cannot wait!

Theres literally so many on the list, I could go with whatever one. And as they are all quite cheap I could buy, like you said, 5-10, (maybe not THAT much haha). I guess theres those games with story and online that I can buy, for example, sniper ghost warrior, ghost recon, splinter cell etc (worried online servers are dead), and also the single player long story games like fallout, deus ex, mass effect etc.

P.S I heard batman was not compatible on the pc, or it messed up on launch day for the pc only? I always liked AC games yet never owned one. Borrowed 3 from a friend and enjoyed (kind of) the story. Apparently unity didnt go down very well although wouldnt mind picking it up, or any other recommended ones.

You're right not to take only my word for these games. I've provided you with my honest opinions. What you do with those opinions is up to you grasshopper.

I understand what you mean about graphics. You get used to a certain standard. You will miss out on alot of excellent games though. Personally, my interest in computer games has been fading for a while now. I find myself playing older games, while most new releases just don't interest me. From what I've seen and read, developers seem to be focusing more on the look of the game than it's content, and I don't play games to stare at pretty graphics. I thought Deus Ex Human Revolution looked fantastic, but I do seem to have low standards when it comes to games. Apparently.

The latest Batman game is Arkham Knight, which was pulled from sale shortly after release due to it being a glitchy mess. I've heard it will be available again in september. The one I recommended, Arkham Asylum, is the first of the series. I played the second one, Arkham City, but found it very disappointing and tedious. I'd read that the third, Arkham Origins, was an inferior version of Arkham City, so I abandoned the series there. I'll definitely play Arkham Asylum again though.

Assassin's Creed Unity was apparently a very poor release aswell. Black Flag is considered to be a very good game, though I don't think I'll bother with it.

I've just been watching some gameplay footage of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2. It looks like a vastly inferior version of Sniper Elite 3.

There are tons of great games available from the last decade or so. They may not be super-HD, but they're still generally good looking games.
