Did the same thing with RAM inserted, it is removed now.

I've had minor system issues occasionally, but nothing like this. I realized that my system would restart when I tapped my desk. Happened three times, then this morning doing so resulted in it rebooting repeatedly...

It may be Power / PSU

Do you have an Extra cable going from your PSU to motherboard ( +12V) ? Check if its corrected right and check if it seems healthy. If there was a PSU failure or overheat / voltage , cables become very stiff, you may see blackness on connection ends. Check your cables.
Best is trying another PSU of course but hard to come by.

It may be short circuit from case:
Try taking everything out ( yeah boring) and run on a bench/desk etc. You can use the foam that usually comes within motherboard boxes, thats anti - static also.

Less likelies;
RAM and VGA errors should give BIOS codes, check your BIOS battery sometimes that can do such a thing...
I once had an error on my mainboard , it had issues if i connect sth on PS/2 port ( a mouse mostly) USB did worked fine..
