Question about SSD and SATA

Hello everyone!

I've been thinking about buying a SSD but they're not that cheap. I want to buy a 120GB and still keep my 1TB SATA if possible. I was wondering what happens if I have both working on my computer.
I wanted to install Windows 10/7 in the SSD and what ever game i wanted to play at that moment. Could i store the rest of my files in the HD and still acess them, like an USB Drive? And if i can, will the transfer/write speed stay the same?
Is there any advantages of having an SSD over an HD?

Thank you for your time!

(Sorry if i didn't explain myself correctly, i can if you need me to)

You are most welcome! :)
That's exactly right. The game will start, load and you'll go through in-game loading screens much faster when it's installed on an SSD. As for your other question, you should enable the TRIM function. This is exactly what will help with the described problem and would keep your SSD at its optimal performance throughout its life. Here's how to do that:
1. To check if the TRIM function is enabled or not, you should open up CMD as an administrator and then type the following fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify. You'll either get a 0 or a 1 as a result. 0 means that TRIM is enabled and 1 means that it's not.
2. If you find out that the TRIM function is disabled, all you...
Hey there Ryu.

Just one question, what do you mean by "install Windows 7/10"? Do you mean that you want a dual boot system or that you're going to install either Windows 7 or Windows 10?
So to get back to your questions:
1. Yes, they can both work together and this is a pretty common combo (SSD for your OS + HDD for your data and/or games). The SSD will boost the operating system's (OS) performance greatly. It would be a lot faster, as well as everything else installed on the SSD. However, in order to get the most out of your SSD, your motherboard should have SATA III ports. You'd still have a noticeably increased performance even if you use it with a SATA II port, but it will be bottlenecked by the older SATA revision (version).
2. Having both drives connected to your computer would be the same as having 2 different partitions on your drive. Both the SSD and the HDD will appear in "My Computer" as drives you can access, e.g. C:, D:, E: etc.
3. The read/write speeds of your HDD would stay the same, but those of the SSD would greatly outmatch the ones of the HDD.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions whatsoever.

It really helped, thanks alot! :)
I meant, installing Windows 7 or 10. One more question, so if i wanna load the game faster, and go through the loading screens faster i should get the games on the SDD rather than the HD right?

And btw, my friend told me that if i keep unistalling games there will be like traces and some bytes of data that will just keep pilling on my SDD. Is there anyway i can keep my SDD clean of those files?

Best regards!

Cheers! :)

There actually is! You only need to enable TRIM ? What does actually happen?
I'm guessing it takes more time to uninstall something by searching every piece of data corresponding to said file?
Sorry about that!
