how to flash bios?

I'm using a Z87 mobo and am upgrading to a 4790K

If I update my bios to F9 on this list, will it be everything all the previous Fx's were as well? Will I be able to use the 4790K then?

If you update to F9 you'll be able to use every chip on the supported CPU list - http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4518

This includes the Core i7-4790K, obviously.

is there a way to flash bios without making a bootable usb or cd?

You don't need a bootable flash drive, just one formatted to FAT - http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z87x-d3h_e.pdf

Okay, think I did it right. When it finished flashing, it restarted on it's own. Once I hit log in screen the res was set to 768. Got to desktop and changed it, checked speccy to make sure everything was still detected etc.

Does the res change sound normal? Seems to be running fine now, and system info says bios version is now F9 rather than F3 like it was before.
