So I just recieved a 250gb Samsung SSD 850 evo. The problem I am having is that I can't get the OS to transfer over and the program that the ssd comes with (data migration) is being pretty screwy. I have about 480 gigs saved on my hdd but the program won't let me choose what to transfer. It does let me choose from only 10 gigs of data to leave out from the cloning process but that isn't even close enough. How can I transfer my OS and other programs (like steam and itunes). I tried clicking and dragging the OS into the ssd file but it wouldn't let me since the file was being used.

Welcome to the community, MadlyFlyingCows!

I guess you can try using a different cloning/migration tool in order to do that. I personally use Acronis True Image WD Edition which actually gives you the option for manual clone. This way you can select what gets cloned and what doesn't. Here's a link to the software:

You can also take a look at this thread from the TH community for some other third-party suggestions: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1848564/hdd-cloning-software.html
And here's another one from our knowledge base which explains how to perform the manual clone with the Acronis True Image WD Edition: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Ne7N3l

Good luck! Hope...
