Wanting To Buy A GTX 970, Don't Wan't To Upgrade Monitor Right Now.

I'm going to buy this GTX 970: http://www.microcenter.com/product/439377/GeForce_GTX_970_Superclocked_ACX_20_Video_Card

My monitor doesn't have an HDMI, or any DVI ports, and runs at a resolution of 1280x1024@75Hz

The GPU I want has a DVI-I port, as you know, DVI-I ports carry both a digital and an analog signal.

A VGA monitor only broadcasts an analog signal.

Would this mean, a cheap $13 DVI-I to VGA adapter like this would be able to allow me to play my games fine without needing to upgrade my monitor?: http://www.microcenter.com/product/357494/DVI-I_Male_to_VGA_Female_Adapter

http://www.microcenter.com/product/357495/VGA_Male_to_DVI-I_Female_Adapter

Not sure which of the two I need.

If I were to buy a monitor, I'd have to downgrade to a cruddy 960, and that would be an absolute no-no. I'm probably getting a monitor in a few months anyways that supports a DVI-I and DVI-D input, so It's better for me to get the better card now, and then the monitor, instead of getting the worse card now along with a monitor.

Thanks.

You sure? I heard some people were having problems with these adapters on higher end cards or something. But I'm only running this card on a single monitor, and am obviously only going to play at 1280x1024.

Are you sure? Can you confirm this? At Microcenter it says only the card comes in the box, and usually it'll show a VGA Adapter along with the card next to the box in the picture like the 970's do, but this doesn't.

Edit: Nevermind, I looked on EVGA's website and it comes with an adapter, I didn't think they'd still include them with it being 2015 and all and VGA being practically dead....

Think I'd still be able to game well though? Apparently some people have problems trying to play using these adapters.

Microcenter has great live support. Go right to the source and ask them if it includes a dongle.

I don't know what you use this machine for, but am I wrong in thinking that a 970 is serious overkill for 1280x1024 ?

As I said, I'm upgrading to a 1080p or 1440p monitor in a few months. It won't be overkill then.
