Hello,

I just recently ordered a new z87-GD65 mobo and a 970. Just planning on upgrading my PC a bit.

The PC I have was given to me as a whole from HP. I'm unsure on the motherboard, but I have a 4770k in it, 8gb ram, 660, 2tb hdd, and windows 8 came already installed on the PC.

My question is, am I going to need to reinstall windows after I change my mobo? Will I need to completely format my HDD? What is the best way to do this? How can I reinstall the windows 8 I have without ever having the disk for windows 8. Am I able to just use the same activation code my PC is currently using?

Thank you.

Because the win8 came with the HP pc, when you switch the MB to the z87-gd65, then you need buy the new OS, you can't use the old OS anymore.
More info: The main difference between OEM and Retail is that the OEM license does not allow moving the OS to a different computer, once it is installed. http://www.zdnet.com/article/is-it-ok-to-use-oem-windows-on-your-own-pc-dont-ask-microsoft/
