Give me a reason to not abandon PC gaming.

I've had it up to my limit when it comes to games that perform poorly. My experience trying to fix Far Cry 4's micro stuttering and texture pop in stuttering has literally driven me insane. It seems like I've tried everything to make this game run completely smooth. But after such an ordeal I'm starting to look at the other games in my library and notice their sub-par performance as well. ALL I WANT FROM A GAME IS A 100% SMOOTH EXPERIENCE. No stuttering, lag, frame drops, glitches, etc. It seems like there are more and more AAA titles on the market that are ditching any form of optimization for PC gamers, A few recent examples, that I'm sure you're all aware of include, GTA V, Batman Arkham Knight, the Witcher 3 and a few others. This lazy console porting has to stop or I will go buy a WII and play super smash all day.

I've been a PC gamer for 10 years now and have seen games at their best and their worst but after all those years I've become a performance nut and, therefore, will easily lose interest in a game if it can't meet my standards. (I'm looking at you Assassins Creed Black Flag)
It feels like nitpicking and but I honestly can't stand it anymore and a smooth experience is important for immersion. I don't consider my system to be bad by any extent, but I'm even noticing this stuttering in games that I've played exhaustively such as Civ 5 when you scroll the map around. Please feel free to share your thoughts on this issue and If you have any insight that can help me or others it would be greatly appreciated. Who knows? You might save someone from going into an insane asylum. Thanks!

My system:
Windows 8.1 Enterprise, July 2015
Asrock 990fx Extreme 4
Fx 6300 4.7ghz
HD 7850 1050Core, 1350Mem
Kingston SSD Now v300 120Gb
Gskill Ripjaws 1x8gb DDR3 1333/88824
Rosewill Stallion 500W
1TB 7200RPM
2TB 5400RPM
42" RCA 1080p
MAudio AV-40's
Razer DeathAdder
Razer Blackwidow

PS. I saw the video for the PS4 version of Far Cry 4.... so smooth, no hitching, no stuttering, no settings menu. Maybe I should buy a PS4.

Solution
Try this:

1) Download RadeonPro utility (free) http://www.radeonpro.info/
2) start it, click on Global, then Tweaks, set VSync control to Dynamic and enter your Display Refresh rate (most likely 60 Hz)
3) Click Save Changes
4) Keep RadeonPro utility open, then open FarCry 4, check that Vsync in the game options is set to OFF
5) try playing FarCry 4
You have a low-medium powered PC and you are trying to play AAA titles at settings that are most likely beyond the scope of your PC. Turn down the settings and you will get better performance. The 7850 is 3-4 years old and was not powerful even when it was new.

I understand where you're coming from but even at lowest settings, I mean absolutely lowest settings possible and set to 800x600 resolution, I still get stuttering and frame drops.

As an aside, great choice in speakers I run a pair off my SB Titanium X-Fi HD and they rip.

One thing I want to ask is it seems you're running off a 42" TV, the response time of TV's is fairly poor compared to a true monitor (and especially no offense an RCA which is a really low end TV) so that can be the source of some of your issues. Otherwise your equipment is mostly ok but TBH to get a perfect experience for a lot of these games you need a bit more horsepower, your memory is a little slow, your 2 TB drive is really slow (if you happen to run games off it), and you would benefit from crossfiring that 7850 with another one or upgrading to an R9 290X.

That said PC gaming is always going to involve tweaking, and is rarely if ever a plug and play experience. I'm kind of like you, Id rather spend more time playing than screwing with getting it to work right. As of right now I do play on my PC because there were some PC exclusives I wanted to play, and I got some sick deals on some newer titles.

You can go PS4, and the games are optimized for it so they generally run smooth (although not always!), but they will never look as good as your PC when configured right.

Still, system is mediocre. Hardware issues are just as likely as software problems. At least try a fresh OS before you become a console peasant.

I would generally agree that my system isn't the greatest, but it seems counter-intuitive to just throw more money into a system to play games that are coded like shit in the first place. Seriously google Far Cry 4 ultra settings or Watch Dogs ultra settings. Really any Ubishit game and you'll see that even people with the most god-like setups have issues.
Also, my refresh rate is 60hz with an ~8ms response time. I'm not a pro gamer so I, like many others, don't perceive a delay for anything under 20ms.

Just installed windows 10, sucked ass, went back to windows 8.1, hence the July 2015 version.

Trying to explain away your systems poor performance by simply blaming bad port coding is lazy. I have zero issues playing Far Cry 4 at max settings even going back to having my 7970. Sure Ubisoft is known for some bad ports, but not everything they release performs badly on systems good enough to max them out. GTA V is a fine port, but if you are running low end gear, you will get low end performance. Gaming on a PC is nothing but throwing money at your PC whenever it starts to slow down, if you dont want to keep up, or dont think you should have to, by all means, buy a console.

Based on the Desktop rating graphics score, with the latest graphics driver, no one will be praising Windows 10 yet for gaming. I had/have RCA CRT tvs and liked the color better than more expensive brands for TV shows. No gaudy colors but there was a slight audio hum.

This is a good solution actually. Seemed to help with stability somewhat. I've used radeon pro in the past but forgot about it. Thanks for the suggestion. Now I have something else to tweak out on.

I'm sure devs have had it up to their limit at the complaining from people with cpus with bad per core performance, expecting that just having more of them solves the issue. Expecting them to spend money when you wouldnt.

You make your choices when you buy your hardware, you make your choices when you dont spend money on it and upgrade. Simple as that. And your still on a 7850.

I wont give you a reason. Go buy a PS4. One less PC user complaining about their low spec helps us all.

(I didnt intend this as a dig at anyone who likes their AMD cpu, i'm sure your not complaining about your choices)

This this so much this. And it's honestly been like this since the late 80's, once "3D" (and by 3D I mean polygon) games became mainstream its been a continuous race every year for the best GPU, best sound, processors, etc. If anything its even slowed down a bit recently (I'm surprised how well my mostly 4 year old system runs today's games).

PC Gaming is not for the faint of heart, part of it is the building and tweaking of your PC to get the best performance. When you get it right you get the joy of playing the game WAY better than any console ever could, and the pride that you built this thing yourself. Its not for everyone, heck I have a PS3 at home too, both for the exclusives and sometimes I get tired of the PC bullshit. But it is what it is.

With Batman AK maybe you can blame the publisher. The scope is bigger so RS give their full attention on the console version (where most sales are made) and let third party (Iron Galaxy) to handle the port. Words is WB know the problem for months but decides not to do anything about it. It is like they want Nvidia to 'sponsor' the cost of porting the title on PC lol.

BTW if you really want it easy then just jump to console. No need to think too long about it. But seeing how things are for these past few months going for console did not guarantee 'smooth silky gameplay experience' either. If you look how console games are right now they are not really that plug and enjoy either. Just like PC version patch are being released from time to time to fix performance. This is not something you see from Play station 2/Game Cube/ Xbox (the first one) gen. But as more and more stuff move into digital download game dev make that as an excuse not to ship almost perfect games since updates and fix can be rolled out more easily than it was back then. And with console if there is something wrong with performance you might not be able to do anything about it until next patch got release. With PC there probably user work around that can be share around. For example with FC 4 dev improve the performance on console by lowering the graphical effect on the games. With PC that's is easy to do because there are graphic option that can be tweaked by user.
