I connected my HDD to use file history and create a system image and backup my files. It was successful, but at the last second I ran into a BSOD involving memory. It BSOD'ed at the part after it backed up the files and was creating a system image completion. When I try to re run the programs again, I get "failed - device is not ready" I tried reconnecting the drive, remounting, etc. The HDD is running when I open my tower to check. What's the issue? I even reformatted.

Hey there, FalloutSeeker!

Have you tried running some tests on your external HDD to check up on the health and SMART status? If not, I'd recommend you to do so and to go through your HDD manufacturer's website for a diagnostic utility that will help you with these tests. In case you are unable to find such a tool, you can take a look at this thread from the community with some third-party suggestions: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Hope it helps. Keep me posted with the SMART data results! :)
