I need help with Debug Code 05.

Issue:
When shutting down my PC, the power remains on (fans spin, power LED on) and Code 05 is shown. There is no HDD activity (they spin down) and the GPU ceases to output any signal while its fans also remain spinning. I have to manually hold in the power button to get the system to completely shut down.

How it arose:
The issue began after some HDD configuration changes. I replaced my single 1TB WD Black HDD with four Toshiba PH3200U-1I72 (2TB) drives configured in RAID-10, but moved the WD HDD to the ASMedia controller so I could still boot from it. (You can't boot from a single HDD connected to the Intel SATA ports in RAID mode while a RAID array is present.)

Steps performed:
Change 1TB WD HDD and DVD-RW from Intel SATA ports to ASMedia SATA ports.
Connect the four Toshiba drives to Intel SATA ports 0 through 3 (4 and 5 still open).
Power-up and enter UEFI.
Change Intel SATA controller mode from AHCI to RAID.
Enable the ASMedia SATA controller.
Set ASMedia Controller mode to AHCI.
Enable the ASMedia ROM.
Save and Exit:
Press Ctrl+I to enter RAID ROM.
Create the RAID-10 Array.
Exit Intel RAID ROM.
Enter UEFI.
Set HDD boot priority to ASMedia 1TB WD HDD.
Save and Exit.
Boot into Windows 7.
Shut down Windows 7 and I encounter this issue and can see the code.

There was an old 2013 thread with this same issue on a Z77 Extreme3 board, but there was no solution within it.

Intel RST is installed. RAID array is NOT initialized but is set to GPT with no partitions as of this time. My thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Solution
I found that thread, and in the paper the 05 error does relate to the RAM, but in your case maybe from the pc set up.
I recommend to start again.

1) Clear the CMOS. And disconnect the 4 HDDs, only connect the 1TB black HDD into the ASMedia port. Make sure you install the ASMedia sata controller driver.
2) Boot the pc enter the UEFI to set the storage mode to ahci, enable boot ROM, and boot priority to ASMedia 1TB WD HDD. Save and boot into the win7.
3)If you can boot and use the " regedit" to check the registry subkeys value is "3" or "0", make sure they are "0". If they are not and change to '0".
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pciide
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pciide
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV ( also any iastor"X", like F, A, maybe there 3 or 4 of them I don't remember what exactly)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStor
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
After that shut down the PC.
4) Connect the 4 HDDs, boot the PC, and press Ctrl+I to set up the raid10. And boot the pc again.

Or you can use the single HDD with the raid10 in the intel sata ports too, now I use one single 250GB ssd (boot) + one 1TB HDD ( storage) + 2x 60GB SSD ( raid0) for games. All you do you have to change the registry subkeys to "0" before you set up the RAID. So if that set up ( boot drive in ASMedia and raid in intel ports) does not work, you may try move the black HDD into the intel sata ports too because your MB has 6 of them.

Oddly enough, right after I posted this the system shutdown properly. Go figure, right?

There is an odd pause just before final shut-off, though. Each Toshiba HDD shutdowns independently (I can hear each one powering off individually), and it sounds as though they do so in the same order they're connected to the 4-lead SATA power cable, longest distance from PSU first. Once the last one powers down, the system shuts off. It used to hang with all the fans still spinning away and display Debug 05 at that point, but now it doesn't... *shrug*

As for the WD HDD connection, today while TS'ing this issue I realized I didn't actually move the DVD-RW over to an ASMedia port. I peeked into the UEFI and saw it listed as a boot device. So I inserted my Win 7 disk and tried booting from it, which worked. I then moved the WD over to the Intel ports, found and then changed the HDD boot option (which I obviously overlooked before, somehow) to the WD HDD instead of the array. I don't know how I overlooked that setting, but I clearly did.

I rebooted and Windows re-detected the WD, this time as a SCSI device (due to enabling RAID mode), installed a driver/setting, and restarted. Since then, everything has been working just fine.

So, thank you for the suggestions. I wish one of them would have resolved the problem, but somehow it worked itself out...
