I've heard those horror stories about the August update, aka, Update 2, for Windows 8.1. Does anyone know if they've fixed the issues? I've downloaded all three updates from the MS Download Center, though I don't know if I trust them now....

Not had any issues but just make sure you have backed up your files if you are really worried.

If the update corrupts your operating system then you can always start the PC hold shift + f8 and use the Windows Recovery feature.

You also have the option of upgrading to Windows 10 if you so choose.

I understand if I had a PC that I need to be up and running at all times then I would not upgrade but I typically like to be on the bleeding edge and don't mind bugs.

The rest of the information should be of help. Install the updates after your files are backed up (if needed) and you should be fine. If not then use the Windows Recovery option. I have two Windows 8.1 PCs that had the latest updates and ran fine but you probably have different hardware and software solutions.

I can understand having the latest and greatest features as well, I'd like to have them too. Though for the main reason listed, I think I'll wait a while and see if Microsoft (hopefully) changes their mind about forcing updates.

Thank you for all your help, I plan on installing Windows 8.1 fresh in a VM and installing the updates just to test them. I'm currently running 7, so I think I'm good for a while. Just wanted to check if anyone knew if Microsoft ever fixed the nightmare of an update.
