With next generation platforms around the corner and a decent scholarship grant soon to be in my pocket, Im not sure if it's worth it to simply upgrade my motherboard to a z77 mobo ( i traded my ud3h for my dads ga-b7m d3h so i could install Yosemite on his computer for his birthday). Im contemplating spending about 110 dollars on a new Z77 motherboard so I can squeeze some more performance out of my 3770k . But im just wondering if it's worth it to just save the 100 bucks and invest in skylake. It's not like i neccesarily need the CPU power, but im worried about directx12 for my crossfire 280's and ivy bridge cpu.
Should I upgrade from i7 3770k to Skylake? or will overclocking be enough?
