Hello! I was thinking to make a small computer or buy a bare-bone kit or maybe buy something small like Intel compute stick for Stem in home streaming. Can someone recomand a good mini pc for something similar and something cheap that costs 200$ or 250$ or less and put on it Steam OS for in home streaming.
Note: I want that mini pc, etc. to have a broadband adaptor (important)

Solution

In Romania 1$ its around 4 lei (lei its the currency)
Im am buying from those sites:
http://www.emag.ro/
http://www.pcgarage.ro/
http://www.evomag.ro/
and other sites. To found the smallest price in Romania for a something use this site:
http://www.price.ro/
And make sure when you choose something make sure that its available.

You can also choose mini PCs...

No. You can't touch any type of PC for that small of a budget...

If you just want streaming to your HDTV, look toward the Google Chromecast (or similar).

There are certainly options. The most obvious is rasberry pi running xbmc. Quite possibly the cheapest solution out there and it works very well. Plenty of guides floating around for setup and all that.

what are the requirements for that type of streaming anyway? that is the place to start and will let you know how cheap you can go. what does it stream? actual gameplay or just video like twitch where you just watch?

never used it and never looked into it myself but that's the first thing to check. can you link to some type of info page for this service so can check to see what you need as a minimum.

that MS stick for $100 is nice but not very powerful and may not be good enough for such a use.

As long as the games are running from your regular gaming pc and not the raspberry pi I see no reason that it wouldn't be able a steam game stream via big picture or w/e

yah i got that, but i asked what the system requirements are for this type of streaming as i do not know what it is. clearly it is not netflix or something like that.

if it requires a gtx 970 and an i7 to do, then clearly 2-300 is not gonna cut it. if it requires a pentium 3 and 256 mb ram, then it can be done. this is what i am asking, how strong does it have to be to do this streaming?

The steam in home streaming (streaming games to others pc) ist based on H264 decoding so it needs a gpu that supports that plus its needs a quad core cpu and it needs modest requierments. Click here to view the link.

that's a bit better info. i thought that's what it was but wasn't totally sure. the pc being streamed to has pretty low needs. it needs about the same specs as an htpc streaming netflix and such.

not sure how cheap it can get but i'm thinking a very basic apu build should be able to handle this no problem. a cheap a6 or a8 more than likely will keep you very low budget. or even a cheap laptop would work fine as well. cheapest i can come up with would be something like this.

few rebates but in the end is pretty cheap and should easily handle the streaming. could drop about $10 or so by dropping the ssd and adding a hdd instead. 1 tb runes about $50 ish and can save a few on the case you can pick for yourself. i just know this one is pretty decent.

do you have a specific site you would like to buy from? this will make it a lot easier for me. and what is the budget in local currency? i'll see what is available to you and what you can get for the bucks. will be something close to this depending on what you can and can't get and what it costs. i know things are very different from country to country.
