So this is the first home server I will be building from the ground up and I am having a bit of trouble choosing the right processor. I will be using FreeNAS as the OS so ECC RAM is a must but finding a cheap processor that works with ECC RAM is a bit of a challenge. The main functions of the server is to hold data, backup my laptops and desktops, and to run Plex and transcode video when needed.
Also I was thinking of just getting 8GB of RAM is more really needed for what I am using this server for, I am going to get 4, 2TB WD red drives.
