Let's add 4 more GB of RAM

I currently have Kingston HyperX Red 4GB ( 2x2gb ) 1600mhz, cl9 - KHX16C9B1RK2/4

Due to their cost, I would prefer to add only one of the following:
1. Kingston HyperX Savage 4gb (single stick) - HX316C9SR/4
2. Crucial Ballistix Tactical 4gb (and set it form cl8 to cl9, same as my current stick) - BLT4G3D1608ET3LX0

But, if saving ~35$ just wouldn't worth mixing different sticks, I have the third option:
3. Kingston HyperX Beast 8GB (2 sticks, other specs = same as current) - KHX16C9T3K2/8X

  • ■ My build is based on AMD AM3+ cpu, so I don't know if Intel XMP Ready (on Kingston options) would also let me use the memory OC profile (1600, cl9).
    ■ I am not sure if that Clock Latency 8 of Crucial Ballistix can have a significant increase over my system performance, or if I should go on Kingston path.
I am open to reading any piece of advice/ opinion about combining/ replacing my current ram build with one of the options above.

Thank you!

(I am sorry if this post has appeared twice, I've posted it before signing up and I couldn't find it listed)

Our Savage memory is compatible with the AMD 970 chipset. If your M5A97 Evo R2.0 has the AMD equivalent AMP settings in the BIOS then it should convert the XMP settings to the AMP and allow you to set it that way. Otherwise the timings would have to be set manually as listed in it's datasheet.

Hi VertUnix,
Mixing memory even with modules that have the same exact specifications can be tricky and there is a good chance they will not work together if not 100% identical which is why memory is sold in matched pairs. Getting a matched pair of memory is the only way to be sure the memory will work together.

Thank you for using Kingston memory!

Kingstonhq, thank you for your reply.
I've decided to stick to HyperX Savage, although I don't know if it is compatible with my mobo chipset (AMD 970/ SB 950). Now, I know the chipset isn't listed, but could those be only minimal mobo requirements, making AMD970 good to go?

Will my M5A97 Evo R2.0 also let me set the new memory from CL11 to a stable CL9 (just like it lets Intel based systems to do, via XMP)?

Best regards,
