I am looking at 2 identical laptops spare the CPU's, they are both dual cores and the i3 is 2.0 Ghz and the i5 is 2.2 Ghz, all i will use the computer for is Minecraft and Word, Publisher, Excel, Powerpoint etc. As there is currently a sale the difference is close to $200. Which laptop should i go with? The specs for the laptops are Windows 8.1 home, 8GB of RAM a 1TB hard drive.

Go for the I3 one , It is perfectly capable for your needs . For a difference of 200$ the i5 one might also pack an external graphics card, but that is more than what you need.

I think we can help you more in detail if you give us specific specs of the laptop or link us to both of the laptop.

You can also opt for an AMD a8 or a10 based laptop , if you can get it at a good price similar to an i3 one. Its integrated graphics are way better than intel and you may get 6 or 8 gb ram coupled with it . It can solve all your purposes at the same price and will perform similar to the i5 one in terms of usage experience. (Obviously not in benchmarks, no need of raising arguments about that)
