My CPU is overheating(80c) what is the most probable cause?

Lately my CPU has been idling at aroung 53c and almost immediately jumps to 80c or more when I try to play a game. I think both of the temperatures are quite high for my CPU, which is an AMD FX 6300 6-core. I cleaned the dust off of my fan and heat sink, and also replaced the thermal paste. Is it most likely my stock fan and heat sink? Also, what else could possibly be making my CPU overheat? Any help would be much appreciated and thanks for reading.

Your idle temp is likely high unless the ambient room temp is also high.

If the game you are playing is load intensive, then yes i would say the problem is a result of a stock cooler. I just tested my intel 4790k w/ stock fan and had same thing. a better aftermarket cooler will almost certainly solve your issue.

I don't know the exact temp thresholds on your chip, but that temp should be safe to continue playing at in the near temp until you can get a better cooler.
