"After attempting a number of things, booting into safe mode, I was able to open a CMD window to run MSCONFIG, and set -> Boot Options -> Active Directory Repair.
After two reboots, it's back to a normal startup, without the "identity is incorrect" error.
Now it's definitely time to update my system image backup!!!! ;)

you might take a look and give it a shot. Looks like people were running the sysprep command and made changes they did not expect related to directory ownership. (changed from the correct "trusted installer" ownership...
Safe mode.

Power the system up, keep taping the F8 key on your keyboard.
You will be presented with a menu of options from repairing windows to using safe mode.
From there you might be able to create another Admin account.
Or reset. change your username and password.
Your other option is, while in windows safe mode use backup and restore.
Look at the restore points and select a time and date stamp before it all went wrong.
Let windows Finnish backup and restore, and on the next run of windows all should be fixed in respect to the username and login password, user errors ok.
Once done restart windows and let it load as normally would.
