Best SLI/Crossfire/Single GPU for under $400-500

Hi community,
I'm looking for suggestions on the best Graphics card value for 400 to 500 dollars.

I have an intel setup (i7-4790k) and the Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 motherboard. 16 GB of ram.

I am most likely going to use a 3 screen 1080p setup or a single 1440p screen.

Current candidates are: 1x GTX 970 Gigabyte Windforce 3x or 2x R9 270x

For 382 US you can get an R9 390X or if you want to save a few bucks the R9 290X which is only slightly slower. Definitely do that over the 270X crossfired. Or do a GTX 970 if you prefer Nvidia, but the 290X/390X is faster.
