Hello, I've been wondering recently if it were possible to take my old hard drive out of my old computer (no longer functional, which may in fact be an issue with the hard drive, I don't really know yet) then wipe that drive, and have it as a secondary hard drive?
It's not all that important, as I'm not very low on storage space. (My current hard drive has 615 gigabytes out of 930, and that's without doing any "cleanup" in quite a while) I'm really just wondering, as that old computer is just sort of sitting there, I have no real use for it, might as well use some of the parts if possible.
I'd also ask about re-purposing the RAM from the old one, but I did a bit of research and found that it wasn't a good idea.

TL;DR: Can I take out the hard drive from an old computer, completely wipe everything on it, and use it along with the hard drive in my new computer?

Thank you very much, I'll have to look into how I can go about doing that.
It was a storebought computer, and last time I opened it up and pretty much took it apart, I found there were a few things I couldn't take out.

Alright, it's an HP Pavilion Special Edition desktop. I think there are different models of it, this is the exact one I have (I'm not sure how exactly I might find this specific one, I'll see if I can find it on a website. Here's an image, if it helps at all)

WOAH ... AMD Phenom ... well.

I am not a fan of AMD (based on experience of numbers and not just numbers)

Hard drive, PSU, case and memory are probably the only salvageable parts.

I will say this though, if you have switched to Intel and live in a cold winter country ... you will see your gas go up and electricity go down.

I'm working on the hard drive, just figured out the trick to removing it. Doesn't seem to be showing up in anything, so I can't format it until I figure out what's wrong.
Memory is a bad idea, as my new computer has much better memory, and from my research, I've found that it isn't a good idea to mix it.
Case is useless to me, it's a baby compared to my current monster-sized case.
As for the power, no need.

I wasn't the one who built this new computer, I don't know all that much about it. I was finally able to get the hard drive into one of the slots, and got one of the cables in (I don't know if the other cable is necessary. If it is, that's my problem. I'll have to find a cable for it, and a port on my motherboard)
Thank you for all the help, though.

I actually figured it out, and it's working. Literally just finished formatting, and is working just fine. And yes, it is a SATA .
